Although Pimpri-Chinchwad has not yet been infected with the novel COVID-19 variant JN.1, the civic body has urged residents to wear masks in public areas due to the 18 active COVID-19 cases in the city.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner said that the new variant is not severe but PCMC would like to appeal to citizens, especially vulnerable groups, to wear masks when they are in crowded places.

There’s nothing to worry about, but PCMC & citizens still need to be cautious and vigilant. Vulnerable populations should begin wearing masks on their own, including the elderly, people with diabetes, people with high blood pressure, and people with severe illnesses.

Singh further added that medical facilities are being prepared. Although they can quickly make them available to COVID-19 patients, there isn’t currently a trend toward hospitalization. Every hospital bed has an oxygen tank.

In the meantime, the city has eighteen active cases of COVID-19, according to the PCMC medical department. A senior PCMC medical officer said that these individuals exhibit mild symptoms. 4 out of 18 are receiving treatment in hospitals while the remaining two are recuperating at home.

According to the civic administration, the government has advised civic bodies to take the appropriate action in the event of a spike in cases due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
