SPPU appeals educational institutes to remain vigilant about drug use among youth
Displeasure expressed by Senate members of Savitribai Phule Pune University
On Wednesday, 28th March 2024, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) urged all educational institutions to remain watchful and notify the local police administration in the event of any suspicious or drug-related incident on their property.
The notification said, “The local police administration is taking serious note of all such anti-social activities. However, all colleges institutes and university departments must be also vigilant at their level. If any drug-related matter is observed among students or any suspicious situation is found, it is mandatory to report all the information to the local police administration immediately.”
This notice has been issued in response to an increase in drug addiction cases in Pune City. Therefore, the Principals, Directors, Heads of Centres, heads of academic departments, and directors of affiliated colleges and institutions have been requested to exercise caution regarding the use of drugs in any of the colleges, institutions, universities, departments, centres campuses and sub-centre areas.
Additionally, the SPPU has been given instructions to carry out a variety of initiatives aimed at educating students about the severe implications of drug affection. Following this, counselling programs to raise awareness regarding the same will also be organised.
