St. Patrick’s H.S wins opening day match of Inter-School Hockey tournament in Pune

Pune: St. Patrick’s High School had a field day winning both its opening day fixtures in the 2nd Father Schoch Memorial Inter-School Hockey tournament, at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri here on Friday.

The tournament, conducted by the Ex Loyola Students Network (ELAN) and Loyola High School, Pune, saw easy encounters remain the order of the day.

The day began with Col. Bhagat High School, Khadki and Modern High School, Shivajinagar playing out a goalless draw (0-0) in an Under-17 encounter in Pool-D.

However, the next two matches had St. Patrick’s High School turn in results.

First-up, in the Under-17 section St. Patrick’s H.S downed Col. Bhagat High School 3-0 in what remained the biggest win of the day. Led by a brace of goals by captain Aditya Darawade, who netted a field goal (31st) and later converted a penalty-stroke (48th), St Patrick’s walked out with full points from their Pool-D encounter. Ron Naidu (37th) scored the third to complete the tally.

Later, in the Under-14 section, St. Patrick’s High School got the better of Delhi Public School, Undri 2-0 in a Pool-B encounter. Skipper Sashank Gore (6th) gave St. Patrick’s an early lead, before Shaurya Menge (37th) doubled the advantage in the second-half.

The tournament was declared open by Father Anish S.J, Loyola H.S Principal in the presence of Manoj Walvekar, President ELAN and Nitin Joshi, Chairman Organising Committee.
