Pune: Students of VIBGYOR School in Chinchwad paid a visit to the public relations office of ex-corporator Shatrughan Kate for a lecture on ‘seeking guidance on democracy’ on Friday.

As per information, Kate was delighted to see the eagerness of the students to learn about ‘democracy’. He added that it is heartening to see that these children of today are going to become conscious citizens who will give more strength to the democracy of the country in the future.

Guiding the students, Kate said that India today is the largest democracy in the world, which represents a remarkable blend of diversity and participation. He also gave detailed guidance about how the country runs in the way of democracy in social life, how to maintain democracy, challenges facing democracy etc. In simple words, democracy is the government of the people, for the people and by the people. A democracy is a state in which absolute power rests in the hands of the people, and is run by representatives elected by the people through open and impartial elections, based on adult suffrage. Mass voting is indeed an effective way to strengthen democracy in India. People should not hesitate and come out to vote. Mass voting can be a means of significant participation of the common people in Indian politics.

Also, Kate, while convincing the school students about the importance of democracy, appealed that democracy is not just to read, write or study as part of the school curriculum but to live by becoming a conscious citizen and imbibing it. He further added that although Indian democracy has many facets, it also faces challenges. Corruption, casteism, poverty and illiteracy are some of the obstacles that hinder democracy in India. However, despite these challenges, India’s commitment to democracy remains steadfast and the nation continues to develop and strengthen its democratic institutions.

On this occasion, former corporator Shatrughan Kate expressed his gratitude to the VIBGYOR school administration for allowing them to guide the school students as a public representative.
