There’s a plan to make the Mumbai-Pune Expressway safer. Tomorrow, from 12 noon to 2 pm, they’ll set up gantries at km 39/900 in the Borghat area as part of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) project.

The people in charge of the expressway (MSRDC) say that during this time, they’ll stop all traffic going towards Mumbai. This includes all vehicles, and heavy ones will be sent to a different road called the Urse toll road or the shoulder lane.

For cars, there’s a different way to go during this time. Instead of going through the usual route, they can exit at km 55 in Lonavla and take the Old Pune Mumbai Highway – Anda Point – Magic Point – Shingroba Ghat – Indira Chowk Khopoli route. This is to make sure people don’t get too bothered by the work happening on the expressway.

For a few days now, there have been times when parts of the expressway were closed off for this work, causing trouble for people traveling that way.

Since many people use this expressway every day to go between Mumbai and Pune, it’s best to avoid it between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM tomorrow. It’s better to use other roads during this time, according to the people managing the roads and the traffic police.
