Two die by suicide on railway tracks near Pune station
In a tragic incident early Tuesday morning, a man and a woman died by suicide after lying down on the railway tracks near Pune railway station. The incident occurred around 6 am as the Harangol-Pune Express began moving from the station towards the railway yard for cleaning. The train had arrived the previous night and was stationed at platform number 2 after all passengers had disembarked.
Railway officials said that the pair, both appearing to be in their late 40s, positioned themselves on the tracks just as the train started moving. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is reviewing CCTV footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
The exact identity of the deceased is yet to be determined. Their bodies were sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem. The reason behind the suicide is still unclear, though railway police suspect a possible love affair may have led to the tragic act.
According to initial investigations, the two individuals were seen leaving platform number one around 6 a.m. before they suddenly lay down on the tracks in front of the moving train. The railway police are currently working to establish the identity of the victims.
Further investigations are underway to understand the circumstances leading to the incident.
