Maharashtra, March 20: The India Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather alert warning of unseasonal rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across parts of Maharashtra over the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been sounded for six districts, cautioning residents and farmers to remain vigilant.
The state has been witnessing persistent unseasonal rainfall over the past two days, resulting in significant damage to crops in several regions. The IMD has predicted continued weather disturbances on March 20, particularly in West Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada.
In the Konkan region, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar, hot and humid conditions are expected. Mumbai is likely to record maximum temperatures between 32°C and 36°C, while minimum temperatures may range between 24°C and 27°C, with high humidity intensifying discomfort.
In West Maharashtra, Pune will experience hot weather, with temperatures ranging between 33°C and 36°C during the day and 18°C to 21°C at night. Meanwhile, districts such as Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall. Solapur remains under a yellow alert, with forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph.
North Maharashtra districts including Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar are expected to see a rise in temperatures, with Nashik recording daytime highs of around 33°C to 35°C.
In Marathwada, hot conditions will prevail in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna, while light rainfall is likely in Parbhani, Beed, and Hingoli. Districts such as Latur, Nanded, and Dharashiv may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph.
In Vidarbha, cities including Nagpur, Gondia, Akola, Amravati, Washim, and Bhandara will continue to experience high temperatures. Nagpur is expected to record maximum temperatures between 34°C and 38°C and minimum temperatures between 21°C and 24°C. Light to moderate rain is forecast in Wardha and Gadchiroli, while Yavatmal and Chandrapur are under a yellow alert for thunderstorms and unseasonal rain.
The IMD has advised farmers to take necessary precautions to protect crops, as fluctuating weather conditions may cause further agricultural damage. Residents are also urged to stay alert amid the possibility of sudden weather changes across the state.
