US Man with ₹1 Crore Salary Seeks Reddit's Advice on Moving to Mumbai
A U.S. citizen recently took to Reddit seeking advice about relocating to Mumbai.
A recent Reddit post from a U.S. citizen seeking advice about relocating to Mumbai has gone viral. The user, who received a job offer in India with an annual salary of ₹1 crore, was curious about the lifestyle he could expect in Mumbai. He also mentioned being a single Mexican American male with approximately $400,000 (₹3.3 crore) in savings from selling his home and a monthly pension of $4,000 (₹3.3 lakh). The post prompted a flood of responses from Reddit users, sharing their insights and experiences about life in one of India’s busiest cities.
The Reddit user, known as “Senorahlan,” recently completed a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity from Western Governors University (WGU) with a 3.0 GPA. He is also a disabled army veteran with ten years of IT experience in the defense sector, including three years as a project lead.
In his post, he wrote, “I was recently offered a job that would pay the equivalent of 130,000 USD (10,000,000 INR) in central Mumbai. I wanted to know what I could expect in terms of lifestyle there.”
He added, “I’d be moving as a single male (Mexican American), with about $400,000 in savings from selling my home and $4,000 per month from a pension. Any insights on where I could live and what I could do would be really appreciated. Thank you!”

The post received mixed reactions from Reddit users. Some were enthusiastic and offered advice on how to enjoy life in Mumbai, while others highlighted the challenges of living in such a bustling metropolis.
One user responded, “With such a salary, your lifestyle would be great. Which area in Central Mumbai is this? You should be able to rent a 2 BHK easily. There’s plenty to do in Mumbai, depending on what you’re looking for.”
Conversely, user “vikram2077” cautioned, “Don’t. You might earn well, but your quality of life could suffer. Expect issues like bad roads, overcrowded public transport, pollution, small living spaces, and corrupt government offices.”
Another user, “neeravparekh,” suggested, “If you can specify where your office is in Mumbai, people can offer more precise advice. Central Mumbai is too broad a term. Based on the limited info, you might want to check out Hiranandani Gardens in Powai.”
