Viraj Joshi to Be Honoured With the Prestigious ‘SaMaPa Yuva Ratan Samman 2023’

Pune, 19th October 2023: Vocalist Viraj Joshi a promising young talent from the Kirana Gharana, grandson of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and disciple of Pandit Shrinivas Joshi will be conferred with the prestigious ‘SaMaPA Yuva Ratan Samman 2023’ by Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa)-Delhi. 

The award is being presented in recognition of Viraj Joshi’s exemplary work in the field of Hindustani Classical Music (Vocals). The award will be presented at the 19th edition of SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan in Delhi on 5th November 2023, 6pm at Kamani Auditorium-Delhi.

The awards are an annual feature of SaMaPA Sangeet Sammelan, which is one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in Delhi and in the country. It was founded by legendary Santoor player Pandit Bhajan Sapoori from Kashmir. In this category of award, each year an award is bestowed upon an emerging young artist to recognize, encourage, and felicitate young artists of our country who are doing exceptionally well in their field.

SaMaPa is a cultural movement to create a unique unbiased and empowering national-level platform for the presentation, propagation, and teaching of traditional music and performing arts for young artists and talents. SaMaPa is acclaimed as the cultural bridge of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country and has created many new generation artists.

Viraj Joshi has been taking his lessons in music from his father Pandit Shrinivas Joshi since the tender age of 8 years. He is the recipient of the Bharat Ratna M.S Subbulakshmi fellowship presented at the hands of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He is also the youngest recipient of the Yuva Prashasti Puraskar 2022 by the Government of Karnataka.
