Amit Mishra, who played under Virat Kohli’s captaincy from 2015 to 2017, noted a significant shift in Kohli’s behaviour after he took on the leadership role. Mishra observed that while Kohli and Rohit started their international careers within a year of each other and achieved significant milestones together, their personalities diverged over time. Mishra pointed out that Rohit Sharma has maintained the same friendly and approachable demeanour since day one, unlike Kohli, whose personality seemed to change with the added fame and power of captaincy.
Mishra spoke fondly of his relationship with Rohit Sharma, describing it as jovial and friendly. Their bond dates back to Rohit’s early days in cricket, and despite Rohit’s rise to captaincy and multiple successes, including winning a T20 World Cup and five IPL titles, their rapport has remained unchanged. Mishra emphasized that he can still joke and interact casually with Rohit without any reservations, which he appreciates.
In contrast, Mishra’s relationship with Virat Kohli has become more distant over time. Mishra mentioned that Kohli’s rise to fame and the responsibilities of captaincy led to a change in his attitude resulting in fewer friends within the team. While Mishra respects Kohli as a cricketer, their personal equation has deteriorated. Mishra feels that they almost stopped talking. This sentiment was echoed by Yuvraj Singh, who also noticed a significant change in Kohli’s behaviour as he transitioned from ‘Cheeku’ to the captain of the Indian cricket team.
Reflecting on his experiences, Mishra shared anecdotes about knowing Kohli since his teenage years, recalling the times when Kohli enjoyed samosas and pizzas. However, Mishra noted a “huge difference” in Kohli’s attitude once he became the captain. While Kohli remains respectful, their relationship is no longer as close as it once was.
Amit Mishra’s revelations shed light on the personal dynamics within the Indian cricket team, illustrating how fame and power can impact relationships.
