Wakad premiere league inaugurated
If ground is available for the new generation to play, surely sports culture will be created in Pimpri-Chinchwad, said BJP’s Chinchwad assembly election chief and former corporator Shankar Jagtap. He expressed his belief that that more athletes will emerge from the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad so that the place becomes known as the ‘sports hub’ of the country.
He also said that efforts will be made to provide quality facilities and ground for all kinds of sports activities in the city, while speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the sixth seaon of the Wakad Premier League.
The cup unveiling ceremony of the sixth season of Wakad Premier League organized by Vinayak Gaikwad Youth Foundation was held on November 6. Wakad Premier League is the biggest tournament organized for the members of housing societies in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune. More than 240 associations of housing societies participate in this sporting event every year and residents look forward to it.
The trophy of this competition was unveiled by Shankar Jagtap. Former mayor Usha Dhore, former chairperson of standing committee Mamta Gaikwad, former corporator Vinayak Gaikwad and others were present at this event.
Shankar Jagtap said, “The playground near Peth No. 39, Kaverinagar Bhaji Mandai in Wakad earlier belonged to the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority. Now it is in possession of PMRDA. We are all trying to transfer this ground to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and make it available to the Wakad residents. Soon, we will make this ground available to the residents.”
He also insisted on collective efforts to make this dream, a reality. He assured that efforts will be made to provide quality facilities and the infrastructure for all kinds of sports.
