Wakad residents upset due to irregular waste collection
Residents of Wakad are complaining about the irregular waste collection and have to complain to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) only then the garbage picking vehicles come. Residents are demanding regular waste collection to avoid inconveniences, as the housing societies do not have enough dustbins to store the waste.
Sandip Yeole, Chairman of Horizon, Wakad, said, “PCMC is not collecting waste regularly although we are segregating the waste in 7 to 8 ways. For the last three days, the garbage van had not come to pick up the waste, so we raised a complaint. And after three days the waste was collected.”
He said, “Most of the time our property manager has to complain to the PCMC waste department to collect the garbage. We are told to segregate dry waste into sanitary napkins, diapers, dry leaves, plastics, medicinal waste, vegetables, etc. We are trying to segregate it but then we will need more manpower to do so. We only want the problem to be resolved and waste collection in our area should be regular.”
“The residents of many housing societies had complained that waste was not picked up regularly. As the residents are not having enough storage capacity for waste. Therefore, the timely collection of waste will solve their problem. The waste collection problem is both wet and dry. The garbage collection vehicles are not regular,” said Dattatray Deshmukh, President of the PCMC Housing Society Federation.
Ajay Charthankar, assistant commissioner (Health), PCMC, said, “We have directed the respective authorities at Wakad to solve the problem that residents are facing related to the collection of waste. There was some technical glitch, the reason the waste was not picked but we have ordered the regular collection of waste. The residents have also been asked to segregate waste and the problem was related to dry waste. We will resolve the issue soon.”
