A shocking incident in Kalyandurg town, Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, nearly resulted in a disaster when a man’s carelessness led to a fire that engulfed several shops. The incident, captured on CCTV and now viral on social media, shows a man inadvertently igniting a pool of leaked petrol on the street.

The CCTV footage reveals two men standing near a row of shops with two parked two-wheelers. One of the men, while smoking a beedi, carelessly flicked his matchstick into a puddle of petrol. The fuel, which had leaked from a container carried by another individual, ignited within seconds, forcing the men to flee the scene.

The sequence of events leading up to the fire was detailed in a social media post by X user Sudhakar Udumula. According to the post, the incident began when a man purchased five liters of petrol, unaware that the container was leaking. As he rode his two-wheeler, the petrol spilled onto the road. Moments later, another individual, unaware of the hazard, discarded a lit matchstick into the petrol, causing the fire.

The video, shared on August 21, quickly gained traction, accumulating over 79,000 views and sparking numerous reactions. One user remarked, “Good. That guy now learned the tough way about the importance of not littering in public,” while another commented, “Smoking is injurious to the environment as well.”

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of careless behavior, particularly when dealing with flammable substances in public spaces. Authorities are likely to investigate the circumstances to prevent such occurrences in the future.
