PUNE: According to the October temperature outlook released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday, Maharashtra is anticipated to experience a warm October, with a higher likelihood of day and night temperatures exceeding the normal range during the month.

K S Hosalikar, the head of Climate Research and Services at IMD Pune, has reported that most regions of the country are expected to experience normal to above-normal maximum temperatures, while above-normal minimum temperatures are expected in most areas, with the exception of certain regions in northeast India where normal minimum temperatures are expected.

Hosalikar stated that there is a higher likelihood of above normal day temperatures in the eastern coastal regions, northeastern states, east-central parts of the country, and parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Additionally, parts of northwest India indicate a higher probability of above normal night temperatures in October.

.As a general observation, it is commonly held that temperatures tend to be higher during an El Nino year. “Simultaneously, the previous three years were characterized by La Nina periods, leading us to anticipate lower temperatures. Nevertheless, there were occasional occurrences of unprecedented heat recorded in the northern regions of the country during that timeframe. El Nino is projected to persist until the first quarter of 2024, with a peak anticipated around December of this current year. However, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) will soon issue a forecast that will provide clarity on the expected temperature patterns during the winter of 2023-24,” said the expert.
