Western Railway’s First Mumbai-Goa Train Set for August 29 Inaugural Run, Check Timings and Stoppages
The Railway Board has approved a new bi-weekly train service between Mumbai and Goa, set to commence on August 29, 2024. The train will operate from Bandra Terminus to Madgaon in Goa, serving tourists from Mumbai’s Western suburbs who are eager to visit the popular coastal destination.
According to the Railway Board’s notification, the train will depart from Bandra Terminus every Wednesday and Friday at 6:50 am, arriving in Madgaon at 10:00 pm. The return journey from Madgaon will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing at 7:40 am and reaching Bandra Terminus by 11:40 pm.
The train’s inaugural run will start from Borivali, an important station on the Western Railway (WR) network, rather than Bandra Terminus. This will be the first Goa-bound train from the Western Railway zone, as all previous trains to Konkan and Goa from Mumbai have operated from the Central Railway stations.
To operate the train on the WR system, there is a need to change its direction from north to south at Vasai Road due to the absence of a direct cord line. This process could be time-consuming and may affect the punctuality of other trains, as noted by a WR official.
The train will stop at 13 stations along its route: Borivali, Vasai Road, Bhiwandi Road, Panvel, Roha, Veer, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Sawantwadi, Thivim, and Karmali. It will be equipped with 20 LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches, which are designed for enhanced passenger safety, comfort, and efficiency.
This new service is expected to provide a significant boost to tourism in the region, offering a convenient travel option for residents of Mumbai’s Western suburbs who wish to explore Goa and the Konkan region.
