Will Pune, Mumbai See Rain Today? IMD Issues Thunderstorm And Gusty Wind Alert Across Maharashtra
The weather department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of Maharashtra, with rainfall activity expected to continue in many areas till June 5.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Pune, Thane and several other districts of Maharashtra, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and rainfall over the next two days.
According to the IMD, more than two dozen districts are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places on June 2 and June 3.

The warning covers several regions across the state as pre-monsoon weather activity intensifies. While some districts remain outside the alert zone, they may still receive light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers during the period.
Mumbai is expected to continue witnessing rainfall activity over the coming days. The city remains under a yellow alert till June 3 due to the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated locations.
For June 4 and June 5, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers, although no specific weather warning has been issued for those dates.
The maximum temperature in Mumbai is expected to remain around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover near 27 degrees Celsius over the next few days.
Pune has also been placed under a yellow alert as weather conditions remain favourable for thunderstorms and rain. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of lightning and strong winds, especially while travelling or participating in outdoor activities.
Districts such as Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur and Parbhani have not been issued any formal warning. However, these areas may still experience light to moderate rainfall and isolated thundershowers during the next few days.
Meteorologists expect scattered rainfall activity to continue across many parts of Maharashtra till at least June 5.
The latest forecast comes after Mumbai recorded its driest May in three years. Data from the IMD showed that the Santacruz observatory, which serves as the city’s primary weather station, recorded only 8.8 mm of rainfall during May. The Colaba observatory recorded just 0.6 mm.
This is significantly lower than the 378.4 mm rainfall recorded at Santacruz in May 2025 and 21.3 mm in May 2024, raising concerns about weaker pre-monsoon rainfall this year.
Weather experts say the upcoming showers could provide some relief from the prevailing heat and humidity while helping improve moisture levels ahead of the monsoon season.
With thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds expected in several districts, residents are advised to monitor local weather updates and take necessary precautions during adverse weather conditions.
