Over 160 flats in Willows society of Balewadi has many eco-friendly initiatives.

Secretary of Willows society, Sudhakar Rao, while speaking to Pune Pulse said, “Our society has maximum green projects. We started from wet waste composting, sewage treatment plant, rain water harvesting and now the latest one with rooftop solar panels. This all has been possible because of the full cooperation of the society residents and the managing committee. We are proud to boast these environment friendly projects and happy that we are contributing to environment conservation through various ways.”

The first phase of the rooftop solar panels generates about 40kW power while the second phase will give us 60kW. With this project we shall be able to light up our lobby areas (common areas), water pumps, sewage treatment plant which takes the maximum consumption of electricity and elevators, added Rao.

The society also recharges the rain water harvesting pits by letting rain water into the pits which helps in recharging the tube wells and increasing the ground water table level.

We have a 2 acre garden in our society premises, where we generate enough brown leaves to generate about 2 tonnes of compost which we use in our garden and also share with our residents. This is an ongoing process and are working on further green initiatives, concluded Rao.
