An alarming incident of extortion has shaken the quiet village of Alandi under Dighi police station, occurring on March 6 around 3 pm. A woman was threatened by a man who accused her of not repaying a loan and demanded five lakh rupees to avoid tarnishing her reputation by circulating morphed images of her. The victim bravely reported the incident to the authorities, leading to the registration of a case of extortion at Dighi Police Station on Thursday, March 15.

The accused, identified as Manu Swami Rogerio alias Michael, residing in Byculla, Mumbai, allegedly used two different mobile numbers to intimidate the victim and her family. He made disturbing calls to the complainant’s relatives, falsely claiming that the victim and her brother were insolvent after borrowing money from him and failing to repay it.

The threat escalated when Michael demanded five lakh rupees from the victim by March 20, threatening to morph her photos and circulate them on social media and among her relatives if his demands were not met. Despite being questioned by the victim’s brother about the loan details, Michael evaded providing any substantial information, heightening the sense of fear and uncertainty.

The victim, determined not to succumb to coercion, bravely stood up against the extortion attempt and promptly reported the matter to the authorities. Police Sub-Inspector Ranware is leading the investigation into this disturbing case, with efforts underway to bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure the safety and security of the victim and her family.
