Work to reduce height of NIBM road near Cloud 9 begins

Pune : The five year long wait of residents of NIBM road, NIBM Annexe, Undri, Mohamadwadi will come to an end, as the inauguration of reducing the height of the gradient took place on December 27, 2022.

The work actually began in 2016, but due to several technical issues, it could never proceed.

The foundation laying took place at the hands of Mukesh Sanas, forest range officer, Pune forest department, residents of various societies, Nanda Lonkar, former corporator NIBM road, NCP leaders Kaleshwar Ghule and Sanjay Lonkar, Farukh Inamdar, former corporator, Mohamadwadi, members of Anandvan Parisar Residents Forum and Anandvan Foundation and many others. 

The height of the road will be reduced by 3 meters (approximately 10 feet) and will become a 24 meter wide road. The markings for the widening of the road were held recently. 

The work should start in the next week, informed a road department official. 

Pune Pulse has been following up with the local authorities regarding reduction in height of the NIBM road gradient near Cloud 9 since 2016. This photo is of the foundation laying held in the year 2016 by then Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Nanda Narayan Lonkar. 


Speaking to Pune Pulse, former Corporator Nanda Lonkar said, “The work was on hold for five years due to various reasons. The permission from the forest department as well as the acquisition process from the private plot owner took a lot of time. I had to visit Chief Conservator of Forest in Nagpur alongwith Prashant Jagtap, president, Nationalist Congress Party, Pune city to take approval for conducting the road work and convince them of the need for widening of the road as well as reducing the gradient. Soon after this was received, the acquisition from the plot owner to lay the road was pending. But after a lot of convincing and follow up the permissions were granted. This road will bring prosperity and development to the area. ” 

Nitin Bokey, an active resident of the area informed that this road work will add to the development of our area. We, the residents of Anandvan Parisar area have been taking consistent follow up on this. 


Tara Singh, President, Anandvan Parisar Residents Forum said that we are happy that the work is going to start soo. We at APRF have been consistently following it up with Nanda Lonkar and other officials regarding the same. 

Altaf Shaikh, chairman, Sunshree Kangan said, “This road work will reduce the dust, ease congestion, curb noise and air pollution too. We are hoping that this road work offers hassle free driving for motorists.”


Bhupesh Sharma, Founder member of Anandvan Foundation said that this will bring down congestion on this road. The gradient will be reduced which will provide hassle free driving for the residents of this area. 

Avinash Kamthe, Engineer, Road department said that this is a milestone project of NIBM road. Residents were constantly demanding for a better access road. The work should start within a few days. 

Nanda Lonkar thanked forest officers, Rahul Patil, DCF, Pune forest division for his prompt action and guidance of making the road, as the road touches Mohamadwadi Forest boundary.
