Television actor Ashish Kapoor, best known for his roles in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Dekha Ek Khwaab, has been arrested in Pune in connection with a rape case that allegedly took place at a house party in Delhi. The actor, who has appeared in numerous popular Hindi television dramas, was taken into custody after evading police across multiple states.
According to police sources, the incident occurred during the second week of August 2025, when a woman, a working professional based in Gurugram, accused Kapoor of sexually assaulting her inside a bathroom at a private gathering. Following the complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed on August 11 at the Civil Lines police station in Delhi.
A senior official involved in the case told Hindustan Times, “Initially, we traced him to Goa, but he managed to flee before the team could reach him. He was finally found in Pune, where he was staying at a friend’s place, and was arrested on Tuesday.”
Initially, the woman’s statement named several individuals, including Kapoor, the host couple (his friend and the friend’s wife), and two unidentified men. She had also alleged that another woman physically attacked her after the alleged assault. However, a week later on August 18, she revised her statement and accused only Ashish Kapoor of rape, while maintaining that the friend’s wife had assaulted her.
Police confirmed that the case was evolving and under review, with legal experts being consulted. “We are examining the matter from all possible angles and have not ruled out any possibilities,” said the investigating officer.
As reported by TOI, CCTV footage and witness accounts have brought new details to light. The footage apparently shows Kapoor and the complainant entering a washroom together during the party and remaining inside for an extended period of time. When they didn’t emerge, partygoers began knocking on the door, leading to a verbal confrontation that eventually spilled out into the society premises.
The situation escalated further outside, where the complainant alleged that the host’s wife physically assaulted her. Interestingly, it was this same woman who dialed the police control room (PCR) to report the disturbance. Following the FIR, Kapoor’s friend and his wife sought anticipatory bail, which the court granted on August 21. The woman was present during the hearing but chose not to name the friend in her court testimony.
As of now, Ashish Kapoor remains in police custody, with the investigation narrowed down to focus solely on him. Authorities are still gathering evidence, and the legal process is underway to determine the next course of action.

Born on October 17, 1984, the 40-year-old Kapoor initially trained as an interior designer before making his foray into the television industry. He debuted in the paranormal series Shhh… Koi Hai and gained prominence through shows like Saraswatichandra, Molkki Rishton Ki Agnipariksha, Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage, Bandini (as Vikram Mahiyavanshi), Woh Apna Sa, Pratigya 2, Nandini, and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (as Nikhil). However, his most iconic role remains that of Yuvraj Rajkumar Udayveer Singh in the drama Dekha Ek Khwaab, which earned him widespread acclaim.
Off-screen, Kapoor has often found himself in the headlines due to his personal life. He was previously in a relationship with actress Priyal Gor, reportedly when she was just 18, and later dated beauty queen Ilda Kroni. His most recent public relationship was with television producer Pearl Grey, which ended in July 2022.
