Zomato Urges Users to Avoid Ordering During Heatwave

Amid the ongoing heatwave in the country, which has disrupted daily life and claimed several lives, food-delivery platform Zomato made a special appeal to its users on social media platform X. In its post, Zomato urged users to avoid ordering food during peak afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary. “Please avoid ordering during peak afternoon unless absolutely necessary,” the post requested.

The post quickly garnered attention, accumulating over 857 comments and one thousand likes. While some people supported a more humane approach toward delivery partners, many criticized the platform for its request.

A significant portion of the comments expressed objections. One user commented, “Bro, you are in food services, and people order food when it is absolutely necessary. If you actually care about your employees, you would be posting ‘Our services are unavailable during peak afternoon hours.'”

Another user said, “Then I’m deleting your app; it is useless now.”
One more user questioned, “Wow, a food delivery app asking its customers not to order in the afternoon. What about those who stay alone? If you’re really that concerned about the well-being of the delivery guys, increase their incentives. You guys already charge a platform fee on every order to pay Goyal’s bills.”

The mixed reactions highlight the challenges faced by delivery platforms in balancing business operations with the welfare of their workers, especially during extreme weather conditions.
