Zoom launches Phone support in India, starting with Pune
The video communication platform Zoom is introducing phone support as part of its Zoom Phone service in India, starting with local phone numbers in the Maharashtra Telecom Circle (Pune), according to a company announcement. Zoom India mentioned that it obtained the Unified License with Access – All/PAN India and Long Distance licenses from the Indian government in April of the previous year.
The company stated that the native phone number support will initially be available in the Maharashtra Telecom Circle (Pune), followed by other regions including Karnataka (Bangalore), Tamil Nadu (Chennai), Andhra Pradesh (Hyderabad), Mumbai, and Delhi, covering all major tech hubs in India. Zoom Phone will allow users of Zoom Workplace to integrate both services and utilize the platform’s AI Companion. This feature can be added for existing paid customers, and it also supports inbound and outbound calls through the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
Sameer Raje, the general manager and head of India & SAARC region at Zoom, expressed excitement about launching Zoom Phone in India, starting with Pune, and emphasized its potential to empower multinational companies and local businesses of all sizes to adapt to flexible work styles, enhance employee engagement, and improve customer experiences.
