Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to auction 200 properties that have defaulted on paying property tax.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ajit Deshmukh, Head of, the PMC Tax Department, said, “200 properties of Pune, which have defaulted on property tax payment, will be auctioned. The auctioning process has begun which will be completed in the next 2 to 3 months.”

As per further information, the Municipal Corporation will auction 200 large properties out of 1618 properties in the city. This action is being taken against tax defaulters and this process will start in October 2023.

The Corporation expects payment of Rs 2,400 crores from property tax in the financial year 2023-24 out of which Rs 1,400 crores till now have accumulated in the treasury of the Municipal Corporation. A total of 1, 618 properties have been sealed by the Municipal Corporation due to non-payment of property tax arrears and the outstanding amount is Rs 96 crore 27 lakh 918.

Construction and development charges, GST refunds, and property tax are the three major sources of revenue for the Municipal Corporation.

Property tax is expected to be Rs 2400 Crores in the financial year 2023-24. Therefore, the properties of those places are being sealed by sending notice.

Those who paid property tax dues have their Tax department seals removed; but properties who have not paid their dues, from them, Rs 1 thousand 400 crores have to be collected by the PMC.
