In a world where age often becomes a barrier to adventures, 66-year-old Anthony Alberts stands as a testament to the spirit of exploration. He is a resident of Swapna Ganga society, Pisoli. From the bustling streets of Pune to the serene landscapes of Kashmir, and even harbouring dreams of a Pune to Singapore odyssey, Anthony’s journey epitomises the indomitable human spirit.

Anthony’s love for travelling began decades ago. A young adventurer in the late 1970s, he embarked on daring solo expeditions, cycling from Baroda to Bombay and traversing over 400 kilometres in just three days. A year later, alongside a friend, he embarked on a 110-kilometre walking expedition from Baroda to Ahmedabad, a feat that showcased his endurance and passion for discovery.

However, as life’s responsibilities took precedence, Anthony’s wanderlust took a backseat. It wasn’t until his retirement in 2017, amidst the heartbreak of losing his beloved wife to cancer, that he found himself at a crossroads. Fate led him to Pune in 2022, where solitude and a longing for adventure reignited his passion for travel.

Undeterred by age or circumstance, Anthony embarked on a series of solo driving expeditions, covering thousands of kilometres across the length and breadth of India. His recent accomplishment is a remarkable solo car journey spanning 7,665 kilometres across 14 states, a feat that took him 53 days to complete. From Maharashtra to Gujarat, from Tamil Nadu to West Bengal, Anthony’s journey not only covered diverse landscapes but also encapsulated the rich tapestry of India’s culture and heritage.

Reflecting on his epic adventures, Anthony shares insights into the meticulous planning that goes into each expedition. From selecting the right vehicle to mapping out the route, every detail is carefully curated to ensure a seamless and fulfilling travel experience. Despite the challenges of age, Anthony’s determination and resilience shine through, as he clocks long hours on the road, often starting his journey before dawn to maximise daylight.

However, Anthony’s journeys are more than just a personal quest for adventure; they are a tribute to the unwavering support and encouragement of loved ones. He fondly dedicates his travels to his late Aunty Betty, whose unwavering belief in his pursuits fueled his wanderlust from the very beginning. Her passing, just as Anthony completed his most recent journey from the southern tip of India to the northern reaches of Kashmir, serves as a poignant reminder of the transient nature of life and the enduring power of cherished memories.

As Anthony sets his sights on future adventures, including the ambitious Pune to Singapore expedition, his story serves as an inspiration to all aspiring travellers.
