Pune: Caller Impersonating MLA Dilip Mohite Tries to Trick Business Owner Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly Elections
The Mahalunge MIDC police have registered a case against an unidentified caller who posed as Khed Alandi constituency MLA Dilip Mohite, demanding money from a plastics company owner. The incident took place on November 16, just days before the Maharashtra Assembly elections on November 20.
The complaint was lodged by Mohite’s relative with the Pimpri Chinchwad police on Saturday. The FIR includes charges under Sections 204 (personating a public servant), 319 (cheating by personation), and 62 (attempt to commit serious offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
An officer from the Mahalunge MIDC police stated that the suspect contacted Ashwin Garg, the owner of Argee Plastics located in Ambethan, on Saturday afternoon. The caller posed as MLA Dilip Mohite and requested help, saying, “Amhala kahi sahkarya hoil ka, ata adchanit ahe (Can you help me as I am currently in trouble).”
Garg grew suspicious and reached out to Mohite’s office, only to learn that the MLA had not made the call. The police are now trying to trace the details of the unknown caller.
MLA Dilip Mohite, associated with the National Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar, is currently contesting the assembly elections from the Khed Alandi constituency. The impersonation attempt comes at a critical time, potentially aiming to exploit the ongoing election atmosphere.
Police officials highlighted that the accused tried to deceive the businessman by pretending to be the MLA and seeking financial or other favours. Authorities are investigating the case and attempting to gather more information about the suspect. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
