400 IndiGo Passengers Stranded in Istanbul for Over 24 hours, Left Without Basic Support, Food and Accommodation
Operational delays left passengers stranded for over 24 hours, sparking outrage over lack of basic support and communication from IndiGo Airlines.
Around 400 passengers traveling on IndiGo flights between New Delhi, Mumbai, and Turkey were left stranded at Istanbul airport for over 24 hours, reportedly without proper food, accommodation, or support. Passengers expressed their frustration on social media platforms, criticizing IndiGo for its lack of customer care and poor crisis management.
The trouble began when flights scheduled to connect Istanbul with Delhi and Mumbai were repeatedly delayed and then canceled. According to passengers, there was no official communication from IndiGo representatives at the airport. Many claimed to have received updates only from Turkish Airlines staff.
A passenger, Anushri Bhansali, shared her ordeal on LinkedIn, stating that the flight faced multiple delays before being canceled, leaving travelers stranded overnight. She mentioned suffering from exhaustion and fever, further highlighting that no food vouchers, hotel arrangements, or alternative flights were provided by the airline.
Similarly, Rohan Raja, another passenger, described the chaos following the cancellation of a 6:40 am flight. He mentioned that travelers were left in freezing temperatures without transportation to any promised accommodations. Meanwhile, Parshwa Mehta, a flier bound for Mumbai, criticized IndiGo’s lack of communication and organization. He noted that lounge access at Istanbul airport was insufficient due to overcrowding, forcing many passengers to stand for hours without adequate facilities.
Passengers called for an apology and fair compensation from the airline, pointing out that such incidents highlight IndiGo’s failure to address basic customer service expectations.
This incident comes on the heels of IndiGo being ranked among the worst airlines globally in the AirHelp Score report 2024. The report, which assessed 109 airlines, ranked IndiGo at 103rd, citing issues with on-time performance and customer service.
IndiGo has since attributed the delays to operational reasons and has promised to investigate the matter, but affected passengers continue to demand accountability and reparations for the ordeal they endured.
