Shocking Video: Disabled Man Falls Into 15-Foot Open Drain Left Uncovered by Civic Body
A shocking incident from Delhi’s Indirapuram has once again raised questions about civic negligence. A disabled man fell into an open drain while reversing his scooter, and the entire episode was caught on camera. The video is now viral on social media, sparking anger against the civic body for failing to ensure basic safety measures.
The incident took place on Thursday, August 28 near the Gaur Green Society in Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram. The victim, identified as Santosh Yadav, a resident of Khoda Subhash Park, had gone out in the morning to buy burgers for his children. While reversing his scooter, the rear tire slipped into the uncovered drain. The scooter dragged him inside, causing him to fall nearly 15 feet deep.
Santosh Yadav, who is disabled, could not control the fall. Eyewitnesses said he was lucky to escape with only back injuries, as the fall could have been fatal. Shopkeepers and local people rushed to his aid. They brought a ladder and managed to pull him out of the drain.

Negligence Behind the Accident
As per reports, the drain was cleaned by the municipal corporation in July. However, the covering ramps were never reinstalled. Locals claim the drain has been lying open for nearly a month, turning it into a major risk for commuters and pedestrians.
This negligence by civic officials is now being widely criticized. Residents said the accident was waiting to happen, as several warnings had already been given to the authorities.

Background of the Area
Indirapuram township was developed by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) in the 1980s. Last year, on September 6, 2024, it was officially handed over to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation after the two agencies signed an MoU. Since then, civic responsibility for the area has been with the municipal body.
Locals, however, say that basic infrastructure issues remain unresolved. Open drains, broken roads, and poor safety measures are still a common sight.
