Pune: Major Disaster Averted In Charholi As PNG Gas Leak Reported In Atlantica Society; Nearly 200 Residents Escape Unhurt
Pimpri-Chinchwad, May 9, 2026: A major mishap was narrowly averted in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Charholi area after a significant PNG (Piped Natural Gas) leak was reported at a residential society late on Friday night.
According to information received, the incident took place at Atlantica Society in Charholi, where a large-scale gas leakage created panic among residents. Nearly 200 families residing in the society were reportedly at risk due to the leak.
Upon receiving the alert, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s fire brigade team immediately rushed to the spot and brought the gas leak under control. Their timely intervention helped prevent a major tragedy.
Speaking about the incident, Rushikant Chipade, Chief Fire Officer of PCMC, said that PNG gas is lighter compared to LPG, reducing the chances of a major accident. He added that in this case, residents quickly sensed the danger and immediately alerted Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) as well as the fire brigade, helping authorities respond swiftly.
Chipade further stated that PNG gas is easier to use and is considered comparatively safer and less harmful than LPG.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Further investigation into the cause of the gas leak is underway.
