Pune, June 8, 2026: Pune Metro has announced the temporary closure of Bhide Bridge to facilitate the construction of a pedestrian bridge connecting the Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station with the city’s central peth areas.

As part of efforts to improve connectivity between the Vanaz–Ramwadi Metro corridor and Pune’s core city areas, pedestrian bridges are being developed at both Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan and Deccan Gymkhana Metro stations. The pedestrian bridge linking Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station to the peth areas has already been opened for public use.

Meanwhile, work is underway on the pedestrian bridge connecting Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station, which is being constructed above the existing Bhide Bridge across the Mutha River. Once completed, the bridge will provide easier access to metro services for residents of Narayan Peth, Shaniwar Peth, Laxmi Road and surrounding areas, as well as thousands of students who commute to educational institutions in the city centre.

In view of the ongoing construction work and based on the No Objection Certificate issued by the Traffic Police Department, Bhide Bridge will remain closed to vehicular traffic from 12:00 midnight on June 9, 2026 (early hours of June 10) until September 5, 2026. The closure has been imposed to ensure public safety during the construction period.

Pune Metro clarified that the road through the riverbed will remain fully operational and open to traffic. During the closure of Bhide Bridge, commuters have been advised to use Lakdi Bridge, Balgandharva Bridge, and Z Bridge as alternative routes.

Metro authorities have assured citizens that efforts are being made to complete the pedestrian bridge project at the earliest. Until then, residents and motorists are requested to cooperate by using the designated alternate routes.

Pune Metro has also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to commuters and thanked citizens for their patience and support during the construction period.
