The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is introducing a more convenient and faster way for residents to update their Aadhaar details. The upcoming digital system will allow users to modify personal information such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number online without visiting any physical Aadhaar Seva Kendra. This marks a significant shift toward a more seamless and paperless verification process, saving both time and effort for millions of Aadhaar card holders.

Aadhaar has become one of the most important identification documents in the country. It is linked to several essential services and government schemes, as well as other identity documents like PAN cards and passports. Earlier, updating any detail on the Aadhaar card required visiting an enrolment center and submitting physical proof documents. UIDAI’s new digital initiative aims to eliminate this old process by integrating Aadhaar data with other government databases such as PAN, passport, and ration card records.

This integration will allow the system to automatically verify certain details, resulting in faster approval and fewer manual checks. Additionally, the updated process will expand the list of accepted proof documents. Utility bills like electricity or water bills will now be accepted as valid proof of address, making it easier for residents to complete their updates without extra paperwork or complications.

Under this new digital facility, Aadhaar card holders will be able to update the following details directly through the official Aadhaar portal:

• Name

• Address

• Date of Birth

• Mobile Number

To make the update, users need to follow a few simple steps. First, visit the official Aadhaar portal and log in using your Aadhaar number and the one-time password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number. Once logged in, select “Update Aadhaar” and choose the field you wish to modify. After that, upload the necessary documents as proof to support your change. Submit the request and keep note of the Update Request Number (URN) to track your application. Once UIDAI verifies your details, the changes will automatically appear in your Aadhaar profile.

There are a few important points to remember before starting the process. UIDAI has announced that online Aadhaar updates will remain free of cost until June 14, 2026, allowing people to make corrections without any charges. However, your mobile number must already be linked to your Aadhaar for the OTP-based login to work. If your mobile number is not registered, you will need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for that specific update.

Users are advised to ensure that all documents they upload are clear, readable, and consistent with the details being updated. Any mismatch between the uploaded document and the requested change could result in rejection. Also, while most updates can be done online, some changes like adding a new mobile number (if the previous one is not linked) or biometric updates will still require visiting a physical center.

UIDAI also sets certain limits for updates—your name can be updated up to two times, and your date of birth can generally be corrected only once, so it’s important to double-check your details before submitting.
