Incident aboard Godda Express raises concerns over misuse of authority by railway staff families; Indian Railways issues apology.

A video from train number 15090 Godda Express, running from Gomti Nagar in Lucknow to Godda in Jharkhand, has gone viral after a woman identified as Anandi Kumar—wife of Loco Pilot Anil Kumar of the Lucknow Division—was seen arguing with a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) over a reserved seat. The incident has triggered public criticism and raised concerns over entitlement behaviour by relatives of railway employees.

According to the video, Anandi attempted to occupy a seat reserved in her husband’s name, despite him not being present. The TTE clarified that as per railway rules, the seat would be allocated to a Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) passenger, and she could not claim it without a reservation in her own name.

Matters escalated further when the TTE asked for tickets for her children, and she openly admitted that no tickets had been purchased for them. At one point, she was heard threatening the TTE and saying, “Aapka koi haq nahi banta,” while also appearing to threaten him with a steel water bottle.

The video, posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), was shared with a caption highlighting how even railway staff often struggle for confirmed seats, raising the question of what ordinary passengers must endure. The behaviour was widely condemned online.

In response to the viral post, the official Railway Seva handle commented, “We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Social media reactions were sharp. One user wrote, “If you are staff, you should show politeness and cooperation. Acting otherwise spoils the image of the Railways.”
Another commented, “Being a railway employee does not mean your family can travel without documents. Strict orders should be issued against such behaviour.”
A third user added, “Not brave, but shameless. Showing this in front of your children—what are you teaching them?”

So far, there has been no official statement from Indian Railways regarding disciplinary action against those involved.
