Early and intense summer across India boosts demand outlook for air-conditioner and appliance companies.

Shares of major air-conditioner and consumer durable companies such as Blue Star, Voltas and LG Electronics surged in the stock market after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued heatwave warnings for several regions of the country.

Investors are turning their attention toward cooling appliance manufacturers as rising temperatures and an early summer are expected to drive strong demand for air conditioners, coolers and fans in the coming months.

According to market data, stocks of companies including Blue Star, Voltas, Havells, Symphony and Shakti Pumps gained between 4 percent and 15 percent during Wednesday’s trading session. The rally came even as the broader market remained weak, with the Nifty 50 index trading lower.

Weather conditions have played a major role in boosting investor sentiment. Reports indicate that the first ten days of March 2026 have been among the hottest in nearly 50 years, with temperatures in some regions rising significantly above normal levels. In parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane and Palghar, temperatures recently touched around 42.5 degrees Celsius, prompting the IMD to issue a severe heat warning.

Market analysts say the early arrival of summer is improving the outlook for consumer durable companies that rely heavily on seasonal demand. After a weak performance in 2025 due to an extended monsoon and delayed summer, companies in the cooling appliance sector are expected to see stronger sales this year.

Another factor supporting the sector is the reduction in GST on certain consumer durable products announced last year, which has made appliances like air conditioners and desert coolers more affordable. Lower interest rates have also increased consumer purchasing power, further supporting demand.

India’s room air-conditioner market was estimated at around ₹32,000 crore in 2024 and is projected to grow significantly in the coming years. Industry estimates suggest the market could expand to nearly ₹71,000 crore by 2029, driven by rising temperatures, increasing urbanisation, nuclear families and higher disposable incomes.

Meanwhile, companies in the sector are also preparing for rising demand by increasing prices of air-conditioners by 5 percent to 15 percent between February and April. Manufacturers say the price hike is necessary to offset higher costs of raw materials such as copper and other supply chain expenses.

With summer expected to intensify across many regions of the country, analysts believe the cooling appliance sector may continue to remain in focus for investors in the coming months.
