Air Hostess on Ventilator Sexually Assaulted at Hospital; Police Launch Investigation
A 46-year-old air hostess was allegedly sexually assaulted by a hospital staff member while she was unconscious and on a ventilator at a private hospital in Gurugram, according to police sources. The disturbing incident reportedly took place on April 6, but a formal complaint was lodged only after the victim was discharged on April 13.
The victim, who had travelled to Gurugram for airline training and was staying at a five-star hotel, had suffered a near-drowning incident in the swimming pool. Following the accident, she was admitted to a hospital for emergency treatment. The next day, her husband shifted her to another private hospital in the Sadar area due to her deteriorating condition.
While undergoing treatment and placed on life support, the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a male hospital staff member. She later informed police that she was semi-conscious during the assault and unable to move or call for help. The complaint also mentioned that two nurses were present at the time but did not intervene.
After regaining full consciousness and being discharged on April 13, the woman confided in her husband, who immediately alerted emergency services. A formal complaint was filed at the Sadar Police Station on April 14 in the presence of the couple’s legal advisor.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to sexual assault. The victim’s statement has been recorded before a magistrate, and an investigation is underway.
“We are taking the matter with utmost seriousness. CCTV footage from the hospital is being reviewed, statements of staff are being recorded, and appropriate legal action will follow,” said a Gurugram Police spokesperson.
The hospital, in an official statement, confirmed its cooperation with the police and said, “At this stage, no allegations have been substantiated. All relevant documents and CCTV footage have been handed over to the authorities.”
