Anant Chaturdashi: Pune police all geared up for smooth conduct of immersion procession

The famous Ganesh festival of the city will culminate with a spectacular immersion procession on September 9th, 2022 (Friday), called the Anant Chaturdashi 2022. More than 8,500 police personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order is maintained in the city. Closed circuit televisions (CCTV) have also been placed at appropriate locations on the routes to be taken by the mandals.

The procession will pass through Lakshmi Road, Kumthekar road, Kelkar road and Tilak road. There will also be processions in the suburban areas of the city.

The security arrangements have been planned under the watchful eyes of Police commissioner Amitabh Gupta and Joint commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik. The police personnel will be on duty from the early morning hours till the immersion ends. The State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Home Guard have also been roped in to ensure smooth conduct of the procession.

A total of 10 deputy commissioners, 23 assistant commissioners, 138 police inspectors, 625 sub-inspectors and assistant inspectors will be on duty on Friday. Apart from this, 7742 police personnel have also been deployed on duty.

“There will be increased police presence in the city to ensure that the immersion procession happens peacefully. At least 8500 employees including senior officials will be at work,” said Sandeep Karnik, Joint commissioner of police.

It has also been revealed that plainclothes policemen will also be seen patrolling the immersion route to prevent theft of valuables like jewels and mobile phones. While a help centre will be operational for citizens, observation towers have also been erected at important junctions.

Police informed that all major roads in the central part of the city will be closed for traffic. The roads will be open only for emergency services like ambulances, fire brigade and bomb squad.
