Bavdhan, Pune – 10th August 2024 — In a significant demonstration of civic activism, the Bavdhan Citizens Forum organized a silent protest titled “Basics First” to address pressing issues like poor walkability, deteriorating road conditions, encroachments, vandalism of “No Parking” boards, and the absence of essential parking signages in Bavdhan. The protest, which took place today, drew over 300 concerned residents who marched silently from Chandani Chowk to Axis Bank Corner, calling for immediate action from local authorities.

The protest was not just a gathering of individuals but a unified effort by the residents of Bavdhan, who are increasingly frustrated by the neglect of basic infrastructure in their area. Participants carried placards highlighting the need for safer pedestrian pathways, improved roads, and responsible urban planning that prioritizes the daily needs of the community.

Support for the “Basics First” movement has been overwhelming, with 51 residential societies in Bavdhan, representing approximately 16,000 residents, formally endorsing the cause. These societies have submitted written support on official letterheads, emphasizing the collective concern over the area’s declining infrastructure.

A spokesperson for the Bavdhan Citizens Forum remarked, “Our silent protest is a strong yet peaceful appeal to the authorities. Basic infrastructure like walkable streets and safe roads should be a priority. The widespread support from so many societies underscores the urgency of these issues.”

The “Basics First” protest highlights the growing frustration among Bavdhan’s residents regarding the lack of maintenance and development of essential infrastructure. As part of their ongoing efforts, the Bavdhan Citizens Forum, backed by the support of numerous societies, has drafted a formal petition to be submitted to the local municipal authorities, urging a comprehensive review and swift improvements to the area’s roads and pedestrian pathways.

This protest marks the beginning of a broader movement to make Bavdhan a safer and more accessible place for all residents. The organizers are hopeful that their peaceful demonstration will prompt meaningful changes in the near future.
