India’s aviation sector took centre stage at the Wings India 2026 awards, where leading airports, airlines and service providers were honoured for their performance and contribution to the industry. Organised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the awards highlighted excellence across domestic and regional aviation, reflecting the rapid growth and transformation of the sector.
At the prestigious ceremony, Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, emerged as the Best Aerodrome of the Year, reaffirming its position as one of the country’s top aviation hubs. Air India was recognised for its role in strengthening air travel across the country, winning the award for Best Domestic Connectivity.
Among airports handling large passenger volumes, Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, secured the top spot in the Above 25 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) category. Pune Aerodrome was declared the winner in the 10–25 MPPA segment, while Lucknow International Airport received honours in the 5–10 MPPA category, underlining the steady development of regional air infrastructure.
The awards also celebrated achievements in regional aviation. Ghodawat Enterprises Pvt Ltd – Star Air was named the winner in the Regional/UDAN Connectivity category for its efforts to enhance air access to smaller cities. InterGlobe Aviation Limited was awarded Best Aviation Service Provider, recognising its contribution to operational excellence in the sector.
In the cargo services segment, the award was jointly presented to Air India Limited and WFS (Bengaluru) Pvt Ltd, acknowledging their combined efforts in strengthening air cargo operations and logistics.
Union Minister of Civil Aviation K. Ram Mohan Naidu presented the awards at the grand ceremony. In an official post on social media platform X, the ministry stated that Wings India 2026 honoured excellence across the entire aviation ecosystem, from airports and airlines to manufacturing and service providers.
The ministry further noted that the presence of both global and domestic stakeholders at the event reflected a shared commitment to innovation, sustainable growth and long-term excellence in Indian aviation.
Wings India 2026, Asia’s largest biennial civil aviation event, is being hosted at Begumpet Airport and will continue until January 31, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers and aviation professionals to discuss the future of air travel in India.
