23 May 2024 – The Indian Premier League (IPL) veteran Dinesh Karthik of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) played his last Eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday. Karthik, who had already made it known that this IPL would be his last, was given a guard of honour by his teammates following the game in Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Even though Karthik remained silent on the subject, the league’s broadcaster verified the rumours of his retirement on social media following the Eliminator match. 

Karthik, who made his debut in the T20 league 16 years ago, in Indian professional cricket, served as a wicket-keeper, and batter for the Indian National Cricket team. He also debuted in 2008 with Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and lastly Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League and is the captain of Tamil Nadu cricket team in domestic cricket.

With a staggering 22 fifty-score runs in 257 matches, Karthik finishes his IPL career with 4,842 runs. Karthik played for six teams in the lucrative Indian Premier League throughout his remarkable 17-year career.
