New Delhi — On Friday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) unveiled the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir. The elections in Jammu & Kashmir will be conducted in three phases, beginning September 18, while Haryana will hold its election in a single phase on October 1. The results for both states are set to be announced on October 4.
The media briefing from the ECI did not initially specify the states, leading to speculation that elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand might be scheduled separately. This speculation was fueled by the Election Commission’s recent visits to Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana to assess election preparedness, with no similar visit to Maharashtra.
The announced schedule includes crucial dates such as nomination filing, polling days, and results declaration:
– The Haryana Legislative Assembly’s term concludes on November 3.
– The Election Commission aims to complete the Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections by September 30, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s deadline.
– The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s term ends on November 26.
– The term of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is also nearing its end.
