A devastating fire broke out in the Indraprastha Co Housing Society, near Bank of India, Vikas Nagar, Kiwale, in the early hours of August 20, 2024. The fire, which was reported at 11:48 PM, gutted four shops in the society, causing significant losses to the owners.

The fire department received a call from Mr. Sarang Mangrulkar, Chief Firefighter from Pimpri Main Fire Station, informing them about the fire. Immediately, two fire tenders from Authority Sub Fire Station and Pimpri Main Fire Station were dispatched to the spot.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found that four shops had caught fire, with all of them having shutter locks. The firefighters used power cutters to break open the shutters and extinguished the fire using hose reels and water. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

The four shops that were affected by the fire were:

  • 1. PGD Computers – estimated loss of Rs 12 lakhs
  • 2. Shri Durga Provision – estimated loss of Rs 40 lakhs
  • 3. Om Ganesh Enterprises – estimated loss of Rs 3 lakhs
  • 4. Shri Lakshmi Kerala Store and Hotel – estimated loss of Rs 15 lakhs

The fire department personnel, led by Fire Officer Gautam Ingawale, worked tirelessly to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to other shops. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The shop owners have suffered significant losses, with some of them not having any insurance policy to cover their losses. The fire department has assured that all citizens are safe, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

In a statement, the fire department said, “We responded promptly to the fire call and worked hard to extinguish the fire. We are relieved that no one was injured in the incident. We will investigate the cause of the fire and take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”
