Fuel prices drop by Rs 8 for petrol and Rs 6 for diesel
With the Centre reducing excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and Diesel by Rs 6 per litre. The new Petrol cost and Diesel will cost in Pune from May 22 midnight will be announced till midnight.
Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance said, “We are reducing the Central excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and diesel by Rs 6 per litre. This will reduce the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per litre and of diesel by Rs 7 per litre. It will have a revenue implication of around Rs 1 lakh crore/year for the government.”
“The prices for Diesel are reduced by Rs 7.31 while Petrol by Rs 9.09 arereduced in Maharashtra. Final selling price of petrol and diesel will be calculated by 1 pm tonight, said Ali Daruwala, national spokesperson, All India Petrol Dealers Association (AIPDA).
“Despite the challenging international situation, we’ve ensured that there are no shortages/scarcity of essential goods. Even a few developed countries couldn’t escape some shortages/disruptions. We are committed to ensuring that prices of essential items are kept under control”, She added.
“The central government is taking tax of Rs 19 on petrol and diesel Rs 12 while Maharashtra government is taking VAT of Rs 35 on petrol and Rs 25 on Diesel. I urge Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to also roll back tax like the central government,” said Daruwala.

It will have revenue implication of around ₹ 1 lakh crore/year for the government. I wish to exhort all state governments, especially the states where reduction wasn’t done during the last round (November 2021), to also implement a similar cut and give relief to the common man.Also, this year, we will give a subsidy of ₹ 200 per gas cylinder (upto 12 cylinders) to over 9 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This will help our mothers and sisters. This will have a revenue implication of around ₹ 6100 crore a year.
