India’s horticulture production is expected to decline by approximately 0.65% to 353.19 million tonnes in 2023-24, compared to last year’s 355.48 million tonnes, according to the third advance estimate released by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Despite the overall decline, the production of fruits, spices, flowers, and herbs is expected to increase. Fruit production is estimated to rise by 2.29% to 112.73 million tonnes, driven by increased production of mangoes, bananas, lemons, grapes, and cilantro. However, production of apples, oranges, mangosteen, guava, litchi, pomegranate, and pineapple is expected to decline.

Vegetable production is estimated to remain steady at 205.80 million tonnes, with significant growth expected in tomato, cabbage, flower, sago, pumpkin, paddy, cucumber, kale, padwal, and okra production. On the other hand, major crops like potatoes, onions, brinjal, big sweet potatoes, and capsicum are expected to decline.

Other segments of horticulture production are also showing positive trends. Production of honey, flowers, spices, aromatic, and medicinal plants is expected to increase.
