Visakhapatnam, fondly known as the “City of Destiny,” is all set to unveil a major tourist attraction—India’s longest cantilever glass skywalk bridge—at the scenic Kailasagiri Hills. According to Deccan Chronicle, the grand opening is expected as early as next week, although the exact date is yet to be officially confirmed.

Stretching an impressive 55 metres, this glass bridge is a first-of-its-kind in the country and offers a breathtaking view of the Bay of Bengal, Vizag city, and the lush green Eastern Ghats. Positioned at an elevation of approximately 862 feet above sea level, the bridge has been strategically built near the Titanic viewpoint, ensuring visitors get the most picturesque panoramic sights.

Developed by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the bridge was constructed at a cost of ₹7 crore. The private agency behind the project is RJ Adventures—a collaboration between Bharat Mata Ventures from Kerala and SSM Shipping and Logistics from Vizag. Bharat Mata Ventures also built the renowned Vagamon Glass Bridge in Kerala. However, with its 55-metre span, the new skywalk in Vizag officially surpasses Vagamon’s 38-metre glass path, earning the title of the country’s longest hanging glass bridge.

Built with cutting-edge German engineering, the bridge features three-layered tempered laminated glass panels, each 40 mm thick. Supported by over 40 tonnes of high-grade steel, the structure is designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 250 km/h and can hold up to 500 kg per square metre. Although the bridge is structurally capable of accommodating over 100 people at once, authorities have capped visitor access to 40 people at a time to ensure maximum safety and an enjoyable experience.

This engineering marvel isn’t just about thrill—it’s also a step toward elevating Vizag’s standing on the global tourism map. Tourists walking on the transparent platform can experience a sense of floating in the air, while soaking in 360-degree views of the ocean and surrounding hills. It’s expected to become a hotspot for photography, adventure, and tranquil moments alike.

The skywalk is part of a larger effort to transform Kailasagiri into one of India’s premier adventure tourism hubs. RJ Adventures has already invested ₹210 crore in the area, having previously developed an Adventure Zone that includes attractions like sky cycling, rope courses, and zip lines. With the addition of the glass bridge, Kailasagiri is expected to see a significant rise in both domestic and international footfall.

A detailed location survey was conducted to determine the best site for the bridge, focusing on ensuring optimum views and structural integrity. The cantilever design was specially chosen to give visitors the thrilling sensation of stepping into thin air—while still being perfectly safe.

As final touches are being completed and approvals from VMRDA officials are awaited, excitement is building for the inauguration. Once opened, this skywalk is expected to be a landmark addition to Vizag’s coastal tourism and a must-visit destination for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike.
