Induction Cooktops Go Out Of Stock Online As LPG Concerns Push Demand

Rising concerns over LPG supply have triggered a sharp surge in demand for electric cooking appliances across India.

Demand for induction cooktops has surged sharply across India amid growing concerns about the availability of LPG cylinders in several cities. As consumers look for alternative cooking options, many induction cooktop models have gone out of stock on major online platforms, including Amazon, Flipkart and Blinkit.

A quick review of online marketplaces shows that availability of these appliances has dropped significantly. On Blinkit, nearly all induction cooktop models were listed as out of stock, while on Amazon only a limited number of products from brands such as Kent and Usha were available. Similarly, on Flipkart, several popular models were marked unavailable, with only a few brands remaining in stock.

Industry players say the sudden shortage is directly linked to growing concerns about LPG availability following supply disruptions connected to the ongoing tensions in West Asia.

Kitchen appliance manufacturer Stovekraft Ltd, which sells products under brands like Pigeon and Gilma, reported a sharp jump in online demand. Managing Director Rajendra Gandhi said the company has seen a fourfold increase in weekly sales of induction cooktops on e-commerce platforms since the geopolitical tensions escalated.

The spike in demand comes at a time when reports from several cities show long queues outside LPG gas agencies, as customers wait for cylinder deliveries. The government has temporarily limited commercial LPG bookings and prioritised supply for domestic household consumers, which has led many households to consider electric alternatives for cooking.

Despite the concerns, the government has clarified that there is no nationwide shortage of domestic LPG cylinders. Officials said that LPG cylinders are currently being delivered within about 2.5 days after booking in most areas.

Authorities also stated that steps have been taken to increase LPG production by around 25 percent to stabilise supplies and avoid disruption to household kitchens.

However, the rapid rise in demand for electric cooking appliances has already created shortages on online retail platforms, reflecting growing anxiety among consumers about the fuel supply situation.
