The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season will officially commence on March 23, confirmed BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla. Speaking to the media, Shukla stated that while the league’s kickoff date has been finalized, discussions regarding IPL playoff schedules remain pending.
The recent BCCI general meeting saw several key decisions, including the announcement that the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will begin in February. The meeting also confirmed the appointment of a new IPL Commissioner for a one-year term. Meanwhile, deliberations on selecting a new BCCI Secretary continue, with another meeting planned for January 18-19 to finalize India’s squad for the Champions Trophy.
The IPL 2025 mega auction, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, witnessed record-breaking bids. Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant emerged as the most expensive player, sold to Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crores. Punjab Kings secured Shreyas Iyer for ₹26.75 crores, while Kolkata Knight Riders welcomed back Venkatesh Iyer for ₹23.75 crores.
