Joshi Museum of Miniature Railways adds scale model of Vande Bharat to its list
Maharashtra Minister Chandrakant Patil unveils the special ‘Vande Bharat’ scale model to mark the occasion. Visitors will be soon able to see working Vande Bharat Model at the Museum
Pune, April 4, 2023: Joshi Museum of Miniature Railways, Kothrud – a unique museum showcasing working scale models of various railways in the world – is celebrating its silver jubilee and a special miniature scale model of ‘Vande Bharat’ was unveiled to mark the occasion.
The scale model of ‘Vande Bharat’, which is designed on the scale ‘1:100’ was unveiled by Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil during a special visit to the Museum, which was founded by late BS alias Bhau Joshi on April 1, 1998.
Ravi Joshi, Devavrat Joshi of Joshi Museum of Miniature Railways, Manjushree Khardekar, Sandeep Khardekar were present on the occasion.
The Vande Bharat is India’s first fast-speed train, which is currently operational on 11 routes.
“The Museum began operations 25 years ago, but I am sure 25 years before the Museum actually started, a lot of work and preparation would have been done for it. The nitty-gritty of railways and different railways in the world are taken into consideration in the Museum, which offers a plethora of knowledge to the visitors. The unveiling of the ‘Vande Bharat’ model is special as the future now belongs to it,” Patil said.
Ravi Joshi said, “We made the model based on the actual drawings from the Indian Railways. Thus, all the minute details were taken into consideration while designing the static model. Work is in progress on the working miniature model of Vande Bharat and it will be soon showcased in the Museum,” said Ravi Joshi. Devavrat Joshi added it took them three months to design the static model of ‘Vande Bharat’.
About the Museum: The entire layout for the Museum is in the HO scale (1:87) using Marklin a.c and Digital systems. The Museum has a lot of features including a fully-functional station yard with six platforms, announcement system, steam trains, diesel engines, high-speed Inter-City Express, Railway Ropeway, Funicular Railway with 26 points and 65 signals. It also features a ghat section with a reversing station for steam trains, two-lane highway with moving cars, drive-in-theatre, swimming pool, a circus, night sky and the entire 20-minute odd show is an audio-visual treat and a holistic experience for the visitors.
Some interesting projects executed by Joshi Museum for the Indian Railways:
– They have made two interactive traffic model rooms at Madgaon, Goa and Dharwad, Karnataka for use in training of Indian Railway operating staff.
– They have also designed the Miniature Room of the National Railway Museum in New Delhi.
– They have also designed seven-eight static models for the Diesel Locomotive Workshop in Varanasi, which are presented as mementos to the key personnel visiting the Workshop.
