After nearly two decades of persistent traffic difficulties and flooding concerns, residents of Wanowrie and Salunke Vihar have finally found relief as key infrastructure improvements around the Ganga Satellite – Bhairoba Nala stretch have transformed daily commuting conditions. What was once one of the most troublesome zones in the region has now emerged as a crucial and smoothly accessible route.

For over 20 years, motorists travelling through the narrow Bhairoba Nala bridge near Ganga Satellite faced severe challenges, especially during the monsoon. The low-lying bridge frequently submerged under rising water levels after heavy rainfall, making it nearly impossible for vehicles and pedestrians to cross safely. During a cloudburst around three years ago, the situation turned dangerous when parts of the bridge went underwater, causing a few vehicles and citizens to be swept away in the strong currents.

Recognising the long-standing hardships of local residents, former corporator Kalinda Punde of Wanawadi – Ramtekdi – Sopanbaug (then Prabhag 25) took the initiative to overhaul the bridge. The reconstruction project included elevating the bridge height and widening its structure to ensure safer and more reliable passage during heavy rains. The upgraded bridge now facilitates smoother traffic flow and significantly reduces the risk of water logging.

In addition to the bridge work, another long-pending issue was addressed – the reopening of the parallel road connecting Ganga Satellite to Netaji Nagar. This road had remained closed and unused for more than twenty years, leaving residents with limited mobility options and contributing to severe congestion during peak hours. Through persistent follow-up and a clear development plan, Punde pushed for the revival of this vital stretch, making it fully accessible to the public once again.

The combined effect of these two infrastructural improvements has been transformative. The roads have drastically eased traffic pressure, reduced travel time, and improved overall connectivity between Wanowrie, Salunke Vihar, and neighbouring localities. Residents say the upgrades have become the “lifeline of the area,” especially during the monsoon season when flooding used to be a major concern.

These developments, driven by long-term planning and community-focused vision, have brought lasting relief to thousands of daily commuters and have set a new benchmark for resolving long-pending civic issues in the region.
