Pune: Residents of Kalyani Nagar are troubled by the persistent and unauthorized parking of auto-rickshaws on the sides of our roads, particularly in areas apart from the designated auto rickshaw stands.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Haresh Bharwani, a resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “The auto rickshaws in Kalyani Nagar park in a very haphazard manner. They must park in their designated spaces. That is not happening. We are not getting space to park our vehicles. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has designated autorickshaw stands at various places. However, the rickshaws are not parking in their allotted parking space. This issue has been prevalent for the past 3 odd months. Hence, police must take action against them for parking in the wrong spaces. Along with the rickshaws, other vehicles remain parked on the footpath and drive on the footpath as well. Thus, action must be taken against all of them.”

Monica S, a resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “The proliferation of unauthorized rickshaw stands in Kalyani Nagar has led to a surfeit of vehicles clogging the streets, causing chaos and congestion. The auto drivers recklessly park their rickshaws along the sides of roads, obstructing traffic and ignoring ‘no parking’ signs on footpaths. Despite repeated complaints to the authorities, the problem persists, with an oversupply of rickshaws and a lack of effective solutions. It’s a daily struggle for residents and commuters alike, as the situation continues to deteriorate.”

Nilesh Chavan, a resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “Auto rickshaws park in no parking areas & usually they park at both sides of the road. As there are vehicles of Cerebrum IT Park, D Mart vehicles etc. due to these rickshaws parked in a haphazard manner, the smooth traffic flow is hampered. This issue is very old, however, it has started to happen again since 5 to 6 months.”

Rachna Agarwal, Resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “The issue is very severe. These auto-rickshaw drivers are just erecting their own rickshaw booths wherever they want to. Very few designated rickshaw spaces are there in the area. However, opposite Mamta supermarket, they simply block the entire footpath by parking their auto-rickshaws. We have raised this issue with the relevant authorities but it is still not getting resolved.”

Shailesh Sankhe, Senior Police Inspector, Yerawada Traffic Police said, “Every day patrolling is conducted by the traffic division in the area where strict action is taken against the auto rickshaws who park improperly.”

Yogesh Mulik, former corporator, Vadgaon Sheri said, “We will meet with the concerned department and, after discussing this, we will resolve the issue.”
