Maharashtra, June 1, 2026: Pre-monsoon activity has intensified across Maharashtra, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a Yellow Alert for 23 districts on June 2. The weather department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, moderate rainfall and gusty winds in several parts of the state over the next 24 hours. The alert covers districts across Konkan, North Maharashtra, Western Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha regions. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious, especially during periods of intense rainfall, lightning activity and strong winds.
Yellow Alert for Konkan Districts The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for five Konkan districts Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri. These areas are expected to witness cloudy skies, light to moderate rainfall and isolated thunderstorms. Residents, particularly those living in coastal areas, have been urged to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
Rain and Thunderstorms Likely in North Maharashtra The districts of Ahilyanagar, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon and Nashik are also under a Yellow Alert. Weather officials have forecast intermittent rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Farmers have been advised to safeguard harvested crops and agricultural equipment from possible weather-related damage.
Pune and Satara on Alert In Western Maharashtra, Pune and Satara districts are expected to experience cloudy conditions and rainfall. Pune has been specifically placed under a Yellow Alert, with the possibility of heavy showers at isolated locations. Similar weather conditions are likely to develop in parts of Satara.
Marathwada May Witness Scattered Showers The Yellow Alert has been issued for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Beed districts, where intermittent rainfall and increased humidity levels are expected. While Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv are not currently under any alert, light to moderate rainfall may occur at isolated places.
Thunderstorm Warning for Vidarbha Several Vidarbha districts, including Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur and Wardha, are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds. The IMD has advised residents to avoid open areas during thunderstorm activity and seek shelter in safe locations.
Citizens Advised to Stay Alert With monsoon conditions gradually strengthening over Maharashtra, weather experts have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, and follow official advisories issued by local authorities and the IMD. The pre-monsoon showers are expected to bring relief from the prevailing heat, but authorities have cautioned that lightning strikes, strong winds and sudden downpours may pose risks in vulnerable areas.
