Rain Likely in Western Maharashtra and Marathwada While Vidarbha and Konkan Brace for Intense Heat
Maharashtra, May 15, 2026: Maharashtra is witnessing another major shift in weather conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing yellow alerts for both heatwave-like conditions and rainfall across multiple districts. The next 24 hours are expected to remain crucial as several parts of the state are likely to experience contrasting weather patterns.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for intense heat in six districts — Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Akola and Amravati. At the same time, rainfall alerts have been issued for Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Latur and Dharashiv districts due to the possibility of thunderstorms and pre-monsoon showers.
Konkan Region Likely to Witness Hot and Humid Conditions
The Konkan belt, including Mumbai, Thane and Raigad, is expected to continue experiencing hot and humid weather conditions throughout the day. Maximum temperatures in these areas are likely to remain between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures may range from 26 to 28 degrees Celsius.
The IMD stated that high humidity levels along coastal areas are expected to increase discomfort and make conditions more sultry. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts are also likely to witness humid weather accompanied by isolated light rain and thunderstorm activity during afternoon or evening hours.
Vidarbha Faces Severe Heatwave Conditions
In Vidarbha, Akola and Amravati districts are expected to remain under severe heat stress, with daytime temperatures likely to rise between 41 and 43 degrees Celsius. Night temperatures may stay around 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid stepping outdoors during afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary due to the intense heat conditions.
Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Western Maharashtra
The IMD has predicted a change in weather across western Maharashtra, particularly in Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur districts. These regions may witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Maximum temperatures in these districts are expected to remain between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures may range from 22 to 26 degrees Celsius.
Marathwada Also Likely to Receive Rainfall
Latur and Dharashiv districts in Marathwada are also likely to experience thunderstorm activity and light rainfall in isolated areas. Some locations may witness lightning and short-duration showers.
Meanwhile, districts including Pune, Ahilyanagar, Parbhani, Hingoli and Nanded have not been placed under any official alert. However, weather officials said partly cloudy skies and isolated light to moderate rainfall may occur in these regions as well.
Temperatures in these districts are expected to remain between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius during the day and 23 to 27 degrees Celsius at night.
IMD Advises Citizens to Monitor Weather Updates
The Meteorological Department has stated that fluctuating weather conditions are likely to continue across Maharashtra over the next two days. While some districts may experience rising temperatures and heatwave conditions, others are expected to receive pre-monsoon rainfall.
Citizens have been advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts and take necessary precautions against both extreme heat and thunderstorm activity.
