The India Meteorological Department has issued yellow alerts for thunderstorms and heatwave conditions across several districts in Maharashtra over the next 24 hours.

Maharashtra, May 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a dual weather warning for Maharashtra, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in several districts over the next 24 hours, while heatwave-like conditions are expected to continue in parts of the state.
According to the weather department, nearly 10 districts have been placed under a yellow alert for stormy weather, while five districts are likely to experience intense heat and humid conditions.
The IMD has predicted rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph in several regions. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious, especially during afternoon and evening hours.
In the Konkan region, districts including Palghar, Thane, Mumbai and Raigad are expected to witness hot and humid weather conditions. Authorities have urged residents to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours.
Although Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg remain under a heat alert, weather conditions may change by evening, with chances of light rain and isolated thunderstorms in some areas.
In western Maharashtra, Kolhapur and Sangli have been placed under a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain. Strong winds and lightning activity are also expected in these districts, prompting authorities to advise farmers and residents to take precautions.
The Marathwada districts of Latur and Dharashiv are also likely to receive thunderstorm activity and sudden rainfall. While no official alert has been issued for Beed and Nanded, light to moderate rainfall is expected in isolated areas. Maximum temperatures in the region are likely to remain between 38 and 41 degrees Celsius.
In Vidarbha, yellow alerts have been issued for Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia and Nagpur. The region is expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning and scattered rainfall over the next few hours.
Vidarbha has been experiencing severe heatwave conditions in recent days, with temperatures touching 42 to 44 degrees Celsius in several cities. The IMD said the rainfall activity may bring temporary relief from the intense heat.
Meanwhile, no official weather alert has been issued for Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara and Solapur, though cloudy conditions and light to moderate rainfall are likely after afternoon hours.
The weather department stated that the remaining parts of Maharashtra are expected to continue experiencing hot and dry conditions, with maximum temperatures ranging between 39 and 42 degrees Celsius.
